The X5 xDrive45e maxes out at 3.7 kW while connected to a Level 2 (240 V, AC) charger, even if the charger itself is capable of a higher power output. This one may well look similar the last X5, larger grille aside, and while it shares many of the same engines as before, they’ve been heavily tweaked and upgraded. Which probably tells you at least as much about the maturing that BMW thinks its hybrid powertrain technology still needs to do as it does about how stubbornly Munich may be inclined to hold onto its long-nurtured performance diesel engine technology lead.
